Chinese Carved Jade Table Screen, Early 19th Century
A Chinese carved mutton fat table screen dating from the early 19th century. It comes with a wooden stand, a fitted box, and a Sotheby's catalog book. The catalog lists the lots that were part of Sotheby's New York sale on March 18-19,1977, of which this screen was lot 43. The jade itself features a landscape scene on either side, one with a scholar and an attendant, and the other with cranes and bats. Dimensions are: the jade alone measures 10 1/2 inches tall X 7 inches wide, 26.7 cm X 17.8 cm, while the whole screen measures 14 1/2 inches tall X 8 inches wide, 36.8 cm X 20.3 cm.
